24 December 2011:- Brother Hyder Ghulam, the President Islamic Council of Victoria (ICV) Australia visited ABIM headquarter last Saturday. During his visit to ABIM, he was requested to share some of his thoughts and ideas to the ABIM and PKPIM's activists about 'Islam in Victoria'. Victoria is a state of Australia, in the south-east of the country. Geographically the smallest mainland state. Victoria is Australia's most densely populated state, and has a highly centralised population, with almost 75% of Victorians living in Melbourne the state capital and largest city.
Victoria is well known as a multicultural state with 92 272 residents are Muslim out of 1.7% Muslim Population throughout Australia. It makes Victoria as the second biggest home for Muslim after New South Wales. Brother Hyder also touched on the challenges of Muslim in Victoria specifically and Australia generally by providing at the same time the moving forward and tangible solution.
Among the most crucial challenge facing by the Muslim is lack of unifying voice. According to Brother Hyder, for better or worse, Muslim should support Australian Federation of Islamic Council (AFIC) as a peak Muslim body in Australia and hopefully AFIC will gradually becoming a Muslim unifying voice. This visit indeed strengthening the relationship between ABIM and ICV. This was a good sign for both ABIM and ICV in nurturing civil society cooperation at international level.
