ABIM Condemn Ethnic Cleansing of Rohingya's In Myanmar

ABIM are deeply concerned by reports of ongoing ethnic and sectarian violence in Myanmar’s Rakhine (Arkaan) State which to date has caused a thousand of Rohingyas Muslim found dead, 3000 others severly injured and hundreds of houses burned. ABIM firmly uphold the United Nation Declaration of Human Rights which recognize the inherent dignity and of the equal and inalienable rights of all members of the human family where it to be found to be the foundation of freedom, justice and peace in the world.

Article 1 of the Declaration had clearly lays down that ‘all human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights’. In Article 2, it explains that ‘everyone is entitle to all the rights, without distinction of any, such as race, colour, sex, language, religion, political or other opinion, national or social origin, birth or other status. Article 3 of the Declaration further provides that everyone has the rights to life, liberty and security of person which to be read with Article 5 that strongly condemn any kind of torture, cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment against any human being.

With the above premise, ABIM condemn the continuous violence against the Rohingya Muslim. Despite of not being recognized as citizen of Myanmar, ABIM believes such status does not justify any kind of violation to their basic human rights. ABIM believes that the government of Myanmar is committed in paving their way towards democracy. As such, we urge government of Myanmar to take immediate action to stop this act of violence against the minority Rohingya Muslims that evidently may lead to genocide or ethnic-cleansing in the Rakhine State.

Seeing this tragic event, ABIM also realizes that the hate against the Myanmar Muslims or the Rohingya Muslims in specific has long been instigated by the hardliner Rakhine’s Buddhists through random flyers that were spread all over the State. We believe that any religion would reject race and religion to be the benchmark of discrimination. For that matter, we would like to call other groups of NGOs especially from Buddhist group to come out with a statement to jointly condemn the violence.
