Menurut peruntukan tersebut “Journalists engaged in dangerous professional missions in areas of armed conflict shall be considered as civilians within the meaning of Article 50, paragraph 1.”

Artikel tersebut melanjutkan “They shall be protected as such under the Conventions and this Proto- col, provided that they take no action adversely affecting their status as civilians, and without prejudice to the right of war correspondents accredited to the armed forces to the status provided for in Article 4 A 4) of the Third Convention.”

CONDEMNS ASSASSINATION OF JOURNALIST BY ISRAELI FORCE

ABIM refers to the latest development of the Israeli occupation and aggression against the Palestinians which had witnessed the assassination of a journalist by Israeli forces. According to the report by Aljazeera, a journalist, Shireen Abu Akleh was shot dead in the head while on duty in Jenin in the West Bank territory.

ABIM is of the opinion that the action was clearly inhumane, particularly when the journalist reportedly wore a jacket with the word “PRESS” on it while carrying out her duties.

The brutal assassination reflects the arrogance of the Zionist Regime in violating international norms and laws as enshrined in Article 79 of Additional Protocol I of the Geneva Conventions 1949. According to the provision : “Journalists engaged in dangerous professional missions in areas of armed conflict shall be considered as civilians within the meaning of Article 50, paragraph 1.”

The Article further stated that : “They shall be protected as such under the Conventions and this Protocol, provided that they take no action adversely affecting their status as civilians, and without prejudice to the right of war correspondents accredited to the armed forces to the status provided for in Article 4 A 4) of the Third Convention.”

ABIM also stresses that this action was one of Israel’s efforts to cover up the truth of their atrocities from being exposed to the world.
